To transmit the Buddhadhamma as expressed through Theravada, the Southern School of Buddhism. To teach vipassana, insight meditation, in the Mahasi Tradition. To offer the opportunity to live contemplatively. To offer various courses that enhance the spiritual life.
The Mahasi Sayadaw of Burma taught a challenging method of vipassana, insight meditation which allowed lay people to make spiritual progress in the limited time available to them.
The resident teacher is Bhante Bodhidhamma. He started training in Soto Zen in 1977, then in the Mahasi Tradition. His principle teachers were Sayadaws U Janaka and Rewata Dhamma. In 1986 he ordained and subsequently spent 8 years at Kanduboda Meditation Centre in Sri Lanka. He has been teaching in the West since 1998. From 2001- 5 he was resident teacher at Gaia house in Devon. In 2007, Satipanya was founded in Wales.
